Easy Almond Flour Crackers Recipe

Crackers are my go-to snack (I much prefer savory over sweet), and while I love our gluten-free Ritz crackers and our gluten-free Cheez Its copycat, I’ve wanted a more basic cracker recipe to use with dips and spreads. These almond flour crackers are exactly what I was looking for—crispy, flavorful, and incredibly easy to make! I mix almond flour with ground flaxseed, water, olive oil, and salt to create a dough that is rolled out and cut into squares. The crackers bake in just 15 minutes and taste even better when seasoned with garlic powder and dried herbs.

Ingredients

  • Almond Flour: Be sure to use almond flour, not almond meal. Almond flour is made from blanched and finely ground almonds, while almond meal is made from whole almonds with the skin on. The crackers will taste grainy if you accidentally use almond meal! You can even make homemade almond flour if you have a blender or food processor.
  • Ground Flaxseed: When combined with water, ground flaxseed acts as a binder and helps hold the crackers together. It also adds extra nutrition and fiber.
  • Water: You only need a small amount to bring the dough together.
  • Fine Sea Salt: I mix salt into the dough and also sprinkle some on top after baking for extra flavor.
  • Olive Oil: Adds moisture and helps your almond crackers crisp up in the oven.
  • Garlic Powder (Optional): I highly recommend adding garlic powder to the dough for a savory and flavorful cracker. It’s my go-to seasoning for this recipe!
  • Dried Herbs (Optional): Feel free to add dried herbs like rosemary or thyme to the dough.

Tips and Suggestions

  • To make really crispy almond flour crackers, be sure to roll out the dough thinly and evenly. Bake them until the edges are golden, and allow them to cool completely on the baking sheet before enjoying. They’ll crisp up even more as they cool.
  • I highly recommend layering the dough between two pieces of parchment paper before rolling to prevent sticking.
  • You can customize the size and shape of your crackers by using cookie cutters or cutting the dough with a knife. Adjust the baking time accordingly if they’re larger and thicker than I’ve shown in this recipe.
  • You don’t need to flip the crackers as they bake.

Are Almond Flour Crackers Good For You?

Almond flour crackers can be a healthier alternative to traditional crackers made with refined flour. Almond flour is gluten-free and contains healthy fats, protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. It also has a lower glycemic index compared to wheat flour, which is beneficial for anyone trying to manage their blood sugar levels.

However, store-bought crackers might have added preservatives, sugars, and unhealthy oils. But making almond flour crackers at home lets you control the ingredients used, and with a recipe this easy, there’s no reason not to!

Can I Add Other Seasonings?

Absolutely! You can customize the flavor by adding your favorite herbs and spices, such as onion powder, paprika, or nutritional yeast. Just follow the measurements shown in the recipe card below, and you can’t go wrong!
